ABOUT ARDESHIR IRANI

Ardeshir Irani (5 December 1886 – 14 October 1969) was a pioneering Indian filmmaker, entrepreneur, and visionary who transformed the early landscape of Indian cinema. Best known as the creator of India’s first talkie film, Alam Ara (1931), he introduced synchronized sound to Indian films, marking a historic turning point for the industry. As a dynamic studio founder, he established the Imperial Film Company, one of the most influential studios of its time. His contributions extended beyond Hindi cinema—he also produced India’s first color film, Kisan Kanya (1937), reflecting his commitment to innovation. Ardeshir Irani’s legacy is defined by his forward-thinking approach, technical experimentation, and dedication to advancing cinematic art in India, making him a celebrated trailblazer whose creativity shaped the foundation of Indian filmmaking.
